Ethan helps spread word at showcase

A FORMER apprentice at Companies House is encouraging other young people from across Wales to consider vocational routes into work at Wales’ largest careers event, SkillsCymru.

Ethan John, 18, from Barry, completed his apprenticeship course earlier this summer and has now secured a full-time position as an internal communications admin officer at Companies House.

He will be attending SkillsCymru to promote careers within Companies House, as well as explaining the benefits of apprenticeships to other young people.

SkillsCymru, held at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on October 11 and 12, is an event supported by the Welsh Government and European Social Fund and is expected to attract more than 10,000 visitors.

Ethan said: “When I left school, I had no idea what I wanted to do, I started studying A-levels but still had no clear plan. My parents expected me to go to university like my sister, but rather than committing to three years of study, I decided to take a vocational route and found the apprenticeship course at Companies House.

“My favourite subject at school had always been business studies, so I was naturally interested in Companies House. I began to realise just how many different roles there were available. What appealed to me most about an apprenticeship was that the training was so rounded.

“It meant I could learn a variety of different roles, rotating between customer service, events, internal comms, design and administration. By the end of my apprenticeship, I had a much clearer idea about what I wanted to pursue as a career.”

Sara Allen, senior recruitment manager at Companies House said: “An apprenticeship with Companies House gives applicants a constant support network and access to development opportunities to gain ongoing qualifications.

“Ethan is a great example of this, having completed his two-year apprenticeship in just 18 months, gaining an NVQ level 3 in social media management and going on to secure a permanent role in our communications department.”
