Couple are accused of terror offences
A ROYAL Mail postman and his pregnant wife have appeared in court yesterday accused of spreading terrorist propaganda online.
Sajid Idris, 34, allegedly posted a series of talks by Islamist militant leader Omar Bakri Muhammad – who is banned from entering the UK – on YouTube between November 2013 and December 2014.
Idris is said to have used four channels – OBMLive, OmarBakrionline, SheikhOmarBakri and Omar Bakri Muhammad – to upload the Syrian-born preacher’s propaganda.
His wife, Sadia Malik, 36, who works as a special needs primary school teacher in Wales, is also accused of sending people links to YouTube videos of Bakri via WhatsApp.
Prosecutors claim the material could have encouraged the “commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism”.
Idris and Malik were arrested on suspicion of terror offences in July.
Idris attended the Old Bailey to face four counts of disseminating terrorist publications alongside Malik, who faces one count of the same charge.
Mr Justice Holroyde set a plea and trial preparation hearing for November 21 at Kingston Crown Court.
A trial date will be fixed at that hearing and is expected to take place after January next year.
Idris and Malik, of Llanbradach Street, Cardiff, are yet to enter pleas.
Idris has been barred from leaving Cardiff, except for prearranged appointments, and from attending public demonstrations, marches or protests while on conditional bail.
The terror suspect has also been ordered to sign on at Cardiff Bay Police Station three times a week and cannot apply for international travel documents or use social media channels.
Mr Justice Holroyde barred him from “talking to the public about Islam” and said he cannot “lead prayers, except for in the presence of immediate family members”, while he is on bail.
