Weather strikes the right note for Elvis celebration

WITH warm weather due to hit the UK this weekend, sun worshippers will be hoping make the most of the sunny and dry conditions before cold weather sets in.

The early autumn chill is set to be replaced with three warmer than usual and sunny days, lasting over the weekend and into next week.

People in the south east of England will be able to ditch the winter coats and enjoy a very warm weekend with soaring temperatures up to 24°C.

While temperatures are predicted to be lower in Wales, the good news is that a break in the cold weather is forecast with a mild weekend on the cards.

Temperatures are set to peak at 19°C – above average for September – hopefully making it warm enough to ditch the thick coats and umbrellas altogether.

The weather forecast will surely be welcomed by Elvis fans who are off to enjoy the Porthcawl Elvis Festival as it enters its second day today.

Every September, thousands of Elvis fans descend on the Welsh seaside town for a unique celebration of The King, bringing with them their blue suede shoes, Vegas jumpsuits and best fancy dress outfits.

It’s also the last weekend to make the most of the breathtaking sculpture Weeping Window at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.

After already being admired by millions of people across the UK, the sea of poppies from the Tower of London arrived in Cardiff last month to commemorate the First World War.

The display took five days to install, with each handmade poppy being put in place by a special art handling team under the instruction of designer Tom Piper and artist Paul Cummins.

The last day to see the sculpture is tomorrow.

This weekend is also the finale weekend of Street Food Cardiff 2017.

Having begun yesterday and due to end tomorrow, event-goers heading to the finale weekend at Sophia Gardens can enjoy the colourful outdoor food festival and night market one last time before Street Food Cardiff says goodbye to Cardiff, as well as the summer.

The three-day event is set to see a circus big top for communal dining, 20 rotating artisan food trucks, a craft coffee and brunch club, as well as finale DJs and live music.

Event-goers across Wales will be keeping their fingers crossed for fine weather.

A Met Office spokesman said this morning would make for a cloudy start, but by lunchtime it will have cleared to make way for more pleasant conditions.

“By the time we get into the evening it will be a pretty pleasant evening for the whole of Wales.

“The highest temperature will be in Cardiff with 17°C.

“The evening will be mild with temperatures staying in the low teens.

“Sunday is again staying high with temperatures of 19°C.”

Looking ahead from tomorrow to Tuesday, the weather over the next few days appears to be changeable, with rain possible tomorrow and Monday, perhaps heavy in places.

Tuesday is set to be largely dry with sunny spells.
