WIFE’S HEARTBREAKING TRIBUTE TO CYCLIST KILLED IN ROAD ACCIDENT:
FRIENDS and family have paid tribute to a much-loved husband, dad and friend who died while cycling.
Paul Garrett, 54, from Cardiff died on Friday after a crash between his bike and a black Ford Focus on Pencisely Road in Llandaff.
His friends and family have paid tribute to their “rock”.
Tens of bunches of flowers have been left at the scene, including from his family.
His wife, Karen, called Paul “the love of my life”.
She added: “My rock, my everything. I will love you forever. Good night, God bless.”
His parents also left a message, which read: “My dear Paul the King! Forever in my heart – love you dearly, goodnight, God bless and may you rest and peace. Mam and dad.”
One signed from his eldest son reads: “To my amazing dad! I will miss you with all my heart and I love you so much.”
His employer, Sport Wales, informed staff of the tragic news on Saturday.
Sarah Powell, chief executive of Sport Wales, said: “Everyone at Sport Wales is heartbroken to learn of the death of our colleague and friend Paul.
“He was a hardworking and hugely popular member of staff. We shall miss him dearly.
“Our thoughts are with his family and friends at such a sad time.”
Kevin Charles Fulthorpe posted a tribute on social media about “someone I was proud to call a friend”.
He wrote on Facebook: “In life we meet some amazing people. One such person was Paul Garrett a truly inspirational person, honest and of the highest integrity someone I was proud to call a friend.
“My thoughts are with his family his colleagues and friends at this time.
“You will be missed by all that knew you Paul. God Bless RIP.
“Taken from us far to soon. They broke the mould after you. I’ll miss our chats.”
Another friend called him a “larger-than-life figure”.
“He was unfaulteringly positive and helpful and a father figure to many.
“He loved to travel and had a massive place in his heart for America and the Civil War in particular.
“He was also a massive Cardiff City fan. It’s incredibly sad that he’s gone in this way.”
South Wales Police has appealing for any witnesses to contact them.
The police would like to speak to any person who witnessed the collision, who stopped to provide assistance, or anyone who may have seen the vehicle or cyclist prior to the collision and who have not yet given their details.
