MEET the city’s newest schoolchildren!

The latest group of nursery and reception class pupils are still settling into a new world of learning, play and friendship, just weeks after starting their education adventure.

And on those momentous first days, packed with precious memories, the South Wales Echo was there to help capture the occasion.

The excitement and nervous anticipation of that special day will still be fresh in the memories of mums, dads, grans, grandads and carers across South Wales.

Each family will remember the sound of that first school bell, the sight of a son or daughter heading through the school gate for the first time, and that bittersweet feeling of waving goodbye to a youngster embarking on a new chapter in their lives.

And at such a memorable time, we’ve been working with schools to help mark that big day.

Today’s special 12-page pullout, featuring 83 pictures of children from 34 schools across Cardiff, taken by four different photographers, marks the latest in a series of supplements introduced this year and follows the success of our St David’s Day school pullouts, our school proms supplement and our “last day of primary school” pullout.

Tryst Williams, editor of the South Wales Echo, said: “Any parent with school-age children will know the special excitement of that first day.

“It marks a milestone when children themselves become part of the wider community, forging bonds that will last a lifetime.

“And with the Echo at the heart of the community, we wanted to help celebrate the achievements and milestones of our youngest citizens at this important time.”

As well as seeing their youngsters featured in these pages, proud parents, family members and carers also have the chance to purchase the images directly from the photographers.

Full details are included on page 12 of the pullout.

Beneath each picture is a fourdigit reference number beginning “CDF” which relates to the form you need to use found on the last page of the supplement.
