42-homes plan is unveiled for popular suburb

-

PLANS for 42 homes in a popular residential Cardiff suburb have been unveiled.

Developers want to build 12 twobedroom houses and 20 two-bedroom apartments alongside 10 council apartments of one or two bedrooms on land off Allensbank Road in Heath, Cardiff.

The site, which is largely grassed at the moment, was formerly part of a day centre called the Highfields Centre.

Pentan Architects have drawn up plans on behalf of Wates Residential and Cardiff council.

The homes would be part of the council’s plans for 1,500 new energy-efficient homes in the city.

It will take 10 years to build all the homes at various sites across the city. Developers say the houses have been modelled on a mewsstyle development and there would be “generous” gardens around the apartment block.

The architect says that the apartment block has been designed to take into account the neighbouring homes on Heathmead.

They say that the development is an appropriate scale to Allensbank Road and creates new properties on a piece of empty land.

The access for the site would be changed from the existing entrance from Allensbank Road to a more central location.

There would be a parking spot each for the homes and for visitors.

A consultation has taken place before submission of the planning application.

At a drop-in event people raised concerns about parking and how the plans could make congestion on Allensbank Road worse.

The number of parking spaces has been increased from 44 to 46 as a result of those concerns, according to the developer.

Changes were also made to the footpath arrangements.

Access to the neighbouring garden centre would be kept if the scheme goes ahead.

The plans have now been submitted to Cardiff council for consideration.
