BIKER DIES IN CITY CRASH

MAN, 58, ARRESTED AFTER FATAL COLLISION BETWEEN BUS AND BIKE ON ONE OF CARDIFF’S BUSIEST ROADS

A MOTORCYCLI­ST has died following a collision with a bus in Cardiff.

Police are investigat­ing following the incident, which happened in Caerphilly Road, just before noon yesterday.

A 58-year-old man has been arrested following the incident.

The crash happened near the Lidl supermarke­t. The road was closed for four hours while investigat­ions were carried out.

Speaking to Wales Online, councillor for the area Fenella Bowden said: “I think this is a terrible day for Caerphilly Road.

“My heart goes out to the family of the person involved in the accident.”

Councillor for Heath ward Lyn Hudson said: “I’m sad at the news of a fatality in the ward regarding the RTA today in Caerphilly Road, near Lidl.”

She added: “I’m so sorry for the victim’s family, they must be devastated and my thoughts and prayers go out to them in their loss.”

In a statement, a South Wales Police spokeswoma­n said: “South Wales Police is investigat­ing a fatal road collision on Caerphilly Road, Cardiff.

“Emergency services were called just before midday to reports of a collision involving a bus and motorcycle near the Lidl supermarke­t.

“The motorcycli­st has died and a 58-year-old man has been arrested.

“The road was closed for around four hours while police carried out initial investigat­ions and recovered the vehicles.

“South Wales Police would like to thank the public for their patience and understand­ing during the road closure.”

In a statement Cardiff Bus said one of its vehicles had been involved.

A spokeswoma­n said: “We can confirm that an incident took place earlier today on Caerphilly Road involving one of our buses and a male motorcycli­st.

“We have since been informed that sadly the motorcycli­st has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

“Our team is working closely with the police to assist with their investigat­ions.”
