First look at city’s newest hotel

-

AFTER more than two years in the making Hotel Indigo and the Marco Pierre White Steakhouse Bar & Grill are almost ready to open their doors in Cardiff.

With Welsh-tailored, boutique rooms and amazing views across the city, the opening of the 122-bedroom hotel and its accompanying restaurant has been highly anticipated.

The Queen Street hotel’s rooms, which will see their first guests book in from November 13, pay homage to local history and Welsh heritage.

In the Made in Wales bedroom, aspects of the design are a nod to Welsh textiles. And even the corridors are inspired by the Melin Tregwynt Woollen Mill in Pembrokeshire.

The Welsh Industry rooms tell the story of the country from pit to port with cogs in the rugs and on the mugs, a coal scuttle waste bin and miner’s lamp on the desk. Even the footstools are designed as an export crate.

With a more modern twist, the music rooms are influenced by the best of Welsh music including Tom Jones, Stereophonics and the Super Furry Animals and have speaker artwork, roadie furniture, sound waves on the rug and on the cushions.

The hotel’s rooftop Marco Pierre White Steakhouse & Grill is the chef’s first restaurant in Wales and will offer “simplistic, affordable and good quality” food.

He previously told the Echo: “This isn’t about Michelin stars, this is about going out somewhere that has a nice environment, with good food at a fair price.

“It’s not about tiny servings and 16 different taster courses. If you want to come and have steak and frites with a green salad, then you can.”
