Coffee chain to open a second shop in Cardiff

-

FAST-EXPANDING coffee shop chain Tim Hortons has confirmed plans for a second outlet in Cardiff.

While the first venue, to be located in Queen Street, is yet to open, a second site in the city centre has already been announced.

The branch in Queen Street is currently being fitted out and is expected to open at the end of this month.

A spokesman for Addington Capital, who in partnership with shopping centre owner EPISO let the two units to the coffee chain, said work on the second site was expected to start as soon as the fit-out on the first is completed.

The first venue is the 2,500sq ft former Foot Locker site in Queens Arcade while the second, a 2,000sq ft unit, will operate from the former Artigiano coffee shop and wine bar in Working Street.

The Canadian coffee chain has taken 10-year leases on both venues.

Cardiff was announced as one of three cities in the second wave of Tim Hortons’ nationwide rollout plan.

The Canadian coffee chain will be opening in Manchester, Cardiff and Belfast over the coming months.

Following the news of the second site being announced, Alex Wagstaff of Addington Capital said: “We are delighted Tim Hortons has again chosen Queens Arcade shopping centre for its coffee shop. This will be a real attraction for our customers and a boost to Cardiff.”

The first Tim Hortons in Britain opened in Glasgow at the start of June and saw eager customers queuing overnight to be the first to sample the brand’s popular coffee and baked goods.

Tim Hortons was founded by its namesake, a professional ice hockey player, who wanted to create a space where everyone would feel at home.

Now one of Canada’s most iconic brands, nearly eight out of 10 cups of coffee sold across Canada are served at Tim Hortons and more than 5.3m Canadians – approximately 15% of the population – visit the café daily.

The Cardiff stores will serve hot drinks as well as breakfast and lunch as well as the brand’s signature Timbits, bite-sized doughnuts which come in a variety of flavours.
