BABIES ‘Baby Oliver’s just slotted perfectly into the family’

-

Baby’s name: Oliver James Gifford Date and place of birth: September 5 at 10.29am at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Bridgend. Weight: 6lb 15oz Parents: Mum Emily Louise Gifford, a doctor, and dad Sam Gifford, a teacher, both 30, from Pontyclun. Mum’s story: “Oliver is my second child, and it was a lot smoother this time.

“I didn’t really have any cravings, I just wanted to eat food really.

“The birth was really good. With my first I had to have an emergency C-section, so I tried for a natural delivery this time which I did.

“I was in labour for one hour and 30 minutes so he came along pretty quickly! We stayed in hospital for one night because I lost quite a bit of blood so I had to be monitored.

“It felt really good to take him home for the first time. My first Isabel was in special care for six weeks so it was surreal to be able to take him home after just a night in hospital.

“Isabel, three, was really excited when we said she was having a brother or a sister. She thought it was going to be a girl and wanted it to be called Sarah, so she was a little bit disappointed when a girl didn’t come along but she’s got over that now.

“She likes to call him Gruffalo too, but we’re not exactly sure where that came from.

“We didn’t have a boy’s name at all, but one of the girl names we did like was Olivia.

“At one point in the labour I had a room full of people because of a complication, and one of the midwives said Oliver was a good name.

“Five days after he was born he was still nameless, and then I just had a flashback to her saying that so we decided on Oliver.

“He’s doing really well, he’s a chubby little thing now.

“We’ve had one or two nights where he’s slept well, but he does like to have a feed quite frequently.

“I don’t know if life has changed too much since really, I think it definitely does with your first, but with Oliver he’s just slotted perfectly into the family.”
