Flights from Cardiff to Venice are announced

A NEW twice-weekly service from Cardiff Airport to the historic Italian city of Venice has been announced.

Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline, has confirmed the route as part of its 2018 summer schedule.

The route to Venice’s Marco Polo airport will be launched from the Welsh Government-owned airport on March 27 next year.

Flights will be on Tuesdays and Saturdays and will run until September 9. One-way fares cost from £34.99.

Ronnie Matheson, Flybe’s interim chief commercial officer said: “We are pleased to offer passengers this brand new route to Venice as part of our 2018 summer schedule.

“It boosts further the large selection of flights to great city and sun destinatio­ns available from our popular Cardiff base.

“The ongoing success of our services from Cardiff Airport reflects Flybe’s commitment to listening and responding to the needs of our customers, who are increasing­ly enjoying the time and cost-saving convenienc­e of travelling from their own regional airport.”

Deb Barber, chief executive of Cardiff Airport, added: “There’s no place quite like Venice.

“It offers miles of waterways, cobbled streets and hidden gems located on every corner.

“And, while it’s the ideal romantic destinatio­n, it’s also a very useful access point for cruise customers across the region.

“Our customers eagerly await the start of this route – it’s another welcome addition to Flybe’s ever-growing choice of destinatio­ns.”

Last week, it was announced that Thomas Cook is tripling the number of flights to Turkey its operates from Cardiff Airport for the 2018 summer season in direct response to a rise in demand for holidays to the country.
