Rival sports fans ‘caught on video in street brawl’

-

FOOTAGE has emerged apparently showing football fans clashing outside Bristol City’s Ashton Gate stadium following the Severnside derby match with Cardiff City on Saturday.

The video, which was posted on social media after the game, appears to show multiple attackers setting upon one man, who is on the floor as blows rain down on him.

The small group then disperses as a police officer brandishing a baton comes charging in to restrain one person, while a mounted officer restores order.

Avon and Somerset Police have been quick to stress that the majority of those attending the match were well-behaved, adding that they had dealt with three separate incidents throughout the afternoon involving both sets of fans.

A total of three arrests were made – one for drunk and disorderly behaviour, and the other two for alleged public order offences.

Officers say more arrests could follow if others are found to have been responsible for disorder.

In a statement, a police spokesman said: “Where we are able to show individuals have been responsible for footballrelated anti-social behaviour or violence, we will pursue football banning orders.

“The Bristol City v Cardiff City game was graded as a ‘risk game’ and, while the majority of fans of both clubs were wellbehaved, there was a small minority intent on causing problems.

“We dealt with three small pockets of disorder involving supporters of both clubs.

“We take football-related disorder seriously and will always deal with the offenders. We will be making follow-up enquiries.”

The game itself saw Bristol City run out 2-1 winners through goals from Callum O’Dowda and Aden Flint, with visiting striker Omar Bogle briefly restoring parity for the Bluebirds before being sent off.
