had to wait for that lease to mature so we could buy it out.”
Twitter user “@Dumbo7713” asked @cardiffonline: “Has he ever been to a capital city without a bus station – if so where?” Coun Goodway: “I don’t think so. I am not saying that every time I have been to a capital city I have visited a bus station but the fact is that Cardiff is a capital city, we had a bus station, we’re going through the redevelopment and the process of redeveloping a new one. We will have a bus station by 2020 in this capital city.”
Matt Smith (@smithfrmthediff) to @cardiffonline asked: “Can a bus station be built at ground level while discussions about what the best use is for the space above it take place?” Coun Goodway: “Theoretically, yes, if someone is prepared to take the risk in terms of funding. What we need is a tenant.
“Effectively, that will happen. When we start on site, we will build a bus station first because it’s on ground-floor level. What we need is a surety over who will occupy the space above it so that the council doesn’t have to pay the rent on a vacant building.
“What we need is surety there is going to be a tenant occupying that building then we can move forward and that’s exactly what we’re doing in terms of the timetable.
“In December we will enter into a contract to build the bus station and at that stage we will have decided what uses that building will be put to.”
