Proposal on the big screen for happy pair

South Wales Echo - - NEWS -

A COUPLE were able to add a touch of movie-style glamour to their engagement when the groom-to-be popped the question in a trailer on the big screen.

After being with his girlfriend for three years, 28-year-old Damian Paul wanted to ask his girlfriend to marry him in a unique way.

So the movie buff decided to make his own trailer to pop the big question to Louise Treen, 29.

As the loved-up pair sat down to watch Paddington 2, a blissfully unaware Louise was taken aback when her face flashed up on the screen as part of the marriage proposal.

Damian then asked Louise to marry him in front of surprised moviegoers – and she said yes.

To add to the surprise, Damian and Louise’s family and friends flooded the cinema via the back entrance to congratulate the newly-engaged couple.

Having wanted to do something a bit different, Damian said he was glad the surprise paid off.

He said: “It was a very spur of the moment thing I decided to do. I wanted to make sure she didn’t suspect that I was up to something.

“I saw a trailer for Paddington 2 and had the idea as one of our first dates together was a trip to see the first film.”

Damian spent four days creating the trailer from scratch.

He said: “I know people replay moments like this over and over again in their heads but I literally had it on repeat for days.”

After the magical moment Louise, from Merthyr Tydfil, admitted she couldn’t concentrate on the film itself.

“I just thought we were going out for a date but this is easily the biggest and greatest surprise of my life,” she said.

“I was so happy, I didn’t really even focus on the movie.”

Tyler Mahoney, manager at Vue Merthyr Tydfil, said: “To be able to help Damian organise such a wonderful occasion was an absolute privilege.

“He’s done a fantastic job keeping this under wraps and everyone wishes them all the best for when they tie the knot.”

Damian added he was hugely grateful to the venue for helping him pull of the phenomenal stunt.

He said: “The team at Vue have been amazing – I’d like to thank them, as well as all of our family and friends, for sharing such a special moment with us both.”
