Man, 57, injured in alleged robbery attempt at club

A MAN needed hospital treatment after trying to stop two people “armed with knives” threatenin­g bar staff during an alleged attempted robbery, police have said.

Police are investigat­ing an alleged attempted robbery at Canton Liberal Club at about 10.45pm on Sunday.

“Two individual­s armed with knives gained access to the club on Cowbridge Road East and tried to steal money from the till”, a spokesman for South Wales Police said.

“They were confronted by staff and customers and left empty handed.”

The two individual­s are believed to be male, police said.

A 57-year-old man suffered a wound to his arm which was treated by paramedics before he was treated at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

Detective Inspector Paul Raikes, from South Wales Police, said: “This was obviously a very frightenin­g experience for everyone present at the club and particular­ly distressin­g for the gentleman who was injured trying to stop the two suspects who were threatenin­g bar staff.

“A full investigat­ion is underway. The scene has been forensical­ly examined and we are checking CCTV to identify those responsibl­e for this violent incident.

“It is believed the suspects exited the club onto Alexandra Road.”
