Residents want to block extension

-

OBJECTIONS have been raised over plans for a Cardiff bar to stay open for longer.

Complaints about Pulse Bar, on Churchill Way, have been made ahead of a hearing where councillors will be asked to allow it to open until 6am.

There have been a host of complaints about the planned extension of hours until 6.30am on Friday and Saturday, until 4.30am on Sunday and 5.30am on Wednesday.

Three separate applications for different elements of the business have been made.

Applications for the nearby Parc Lane Fish and Chips have also been made to allow it to stay open until midnight.

The objections cover all the relevant premises.

One resident of Landmark Place has written: “These premises already have extensions to normal licensing hours and have disregarded limits placed on their licences in the past. Further extensions will lead to further disruption and nuisance and disorder. Total disregard has been shown to local residents.

“As a resident of Landmark Place, I am frequently disturbed and inconvenienced by the crowds and noise outside these premises.

“It is unfair for us residents, including small children, to be subjected to the behaviour of clients of these premises, frequently in the early hours clients congregate outside of the premises, hold up inflatable dolls which are an afront to decency.

“As a resident I am unable to avail of the amenities (hotels and restaurants) which are close by because it is not safe to walk past these premises.

“The standard of living promised by Cardiff city council for inner city living has not been delivered”.

A second objection says that Churchill way has become a “no-go” area.

The letter reads: “Over the years they [the company] have been allowed to create a ‘no-go’ area within Churchill Way to the detriment of us living in Churchill Way.

“I would plead that their noxious influence over the area was severely curtailed”.

A third objection says that residents have “made very clear our concerns about the Pulse club and their flagrant disregard for neighbouring properties and residents.

“It goes without saying that I and others are implacably opposed to any further increase in their operating hours”.

Another objection says that the resident cannot sleep on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

“I can only manage a few hours of sleep on these days with the aid of ear plugs and a CD on loop to drown out the noise, but when I wake in the night I cannot get back off to sleep”.

They go on to say two families have moved away due to issues in the area.

There are also objections from South Wales Police, the four ward councillors and the neighbouring Jurys Inn hotel.

A letter on behalf of the hotel says that they “categorically object” to each extension saying it will “adversely affect hotel residents staying at Jurys Inn as well as other persons in the area”.

They say they have already had a number of negative reviews and complaints due to noise and smoke.

The licensing sub committee will meet on Friday when the company will be able to put forward their responses ahead of any decision being made.
