BOUQUET OF THE WEEK Volunteer helps families in need

-

A VOLUNTEER who supports families in desperate need of help has been named this week’s South Wales Echo Bouquet of the Week winner.

Amira Alan has been nominated by Cyncoed councillor Bablin Molik for her tireless work supporting families in social care cases.

Ms Alan, 59, from Cyncoed, said she has spent more than 30 years helping the community on a wide range of issues.

A former school governor, Ms Alan said: “I have always done community work in the past so now that I am retired the community know I have experience and they come to me for advice.

“I advise people on their careers and I help asylum seekers too.”

Ms Alan, who has lived in Cardiff for 58 years, said that she has helped people since she was a child.

Ms Alan said: “I think I have helped people naturally since my childhood, I used to help people when I was in school.

“I have helped out with all sorts of things naturally and it’s just developed over the years.”

Coun Molik said: “Amira does a lot of work for family support.

“She teaches children as well as social work supporting a number of local families.

“She’s been going to court cases supporting families, and getting families’ voices heard who don’t have any means of support.

“She’s very caring and wants to help people. Amira does everything she can to go out of her way and support people.”

Ms Alan said: “I feel very honoured to receive the award but there are much more deserving people out there who should have it.”
