Bin limit relaxed over Christmas
A CONTROVERSIAL two-bag limit on rubbish is set to be relaxed over Christmas.
Bridgend council has said it will allow residents to put out an extra black sack for collection. It will be in addition to the usual two bags of non-recyclable waste they are allowed to put out once a fortnight.
The extra bag is being allowed because households are likely to have large quantities of wrapping paper and polystyrene, which cannot be recycled under the present kerbside collection system.
Deputy council leader Hywel Williams said: “While the two-bag limit will be in place as usual and we are encouraging residents to try and stick to this, Kier have agreed that householders who find it difficult to fit in all of their non-recyclable Christmas waste will be able to put it out for collection as a separate black bag, or pre-sort it and take it to a community recycling centre.”
The council said with Christmas Day and Boxing Day falling on a Monday and a Tuesday, scheduled collections next week will be two days later up to and including Sunday, December 31. The following week all scheduled collections will be a day later. Normal collections will resume on Monday, January 8.
Real Christmas trees can be recycled at the community recycling centres in Tythegston, Brynmenyn and Maesteg. They can also be taken to the Waterton Depot in Bridgend from January 2.
Community recycling centres will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.
