Talks over hospital shake-up

-

A PROPOSAL to transfer one area’s hospital and all other health services to a different health board have been put out to public consultation.

Residents are being asked for their views on the Welsh Government plan to take all health services in Bridgend county off Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABMU) and put them under the control of Cwm Taf. The move has been suggested to simplify decision-making as councils in Wales move towards more collaborative regional working.

The Welsh Government said Bridgend is unique as it has to work with councils to its west, including Swansea, on healthcare and social services issues, but it works with councils to the east on economic and educational development.

Bridgend council is also part of the Cardiff Capital Region City Deal.

In the consultation document Alun Davies, Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services, and Health Secretary Vaughan Gething said their intention in proposing a change to the health board boundary is to “provide clarity and consistency for more effective leadership and partnership”.

The consultation is due to end on March 7, with a final decision being made shortly after. If approved, the change would come into effect on April 1, 2019.

“If implemented, the boundary change would mean that Bridgend council’s partnership arrangements will be broadly comparable with all other local authority partnership arrangements Davies.

“I am grateful to the leaders of Bridgend council, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg and Cwm Taf UHBs for their support and engagement in developing the consultation proposal.

“We will continue to work closely with our partners to ensure all aspects in Wales,” said Mr of the proposal openly explored.”

The consultation document states that if the boundary change is approved it would create “significant work for health boards in the subsequent transfer of staff, assets, contracts and information to be incorporated into a different corporate structure”. are properly and
