Hundreds queue up for Boxing Day sale at store

-

HUNDREDS of keen shoppers braved the cold weather and queued for hours in Cardiff ahead of the Next Boxing Day sale.

Shoppers started queuing from about 1am, with the store opening its doors to customers at 6am.

While most people were still tucked up in bed recovering after Christmas Day, the customers were spotted lining Queen Street from the early hours hoping to pick up bargains, with more than 50% off many items.

Thousands of shoppers also visited St David’s shopping centre in the capital, which said the sales follow another strong festive period.

Steven Madeley, general manager at St David’s, said: “We’re expecting tens of thousands of excited shoppers at St David’s today, as retailers including Debenhams, H&M and River Island begin their much-anticipated post-Christmas sales.

“Unlike the weeks ahead of Christmas where the focus is on buying gifts for others, the days following Christmas provide a real opportunity for shoppers to treat themselves, with many people spending the gift cards and vouchers they received.

“We’re expecting the 27th and 28th to be even busier than today.”

VoucherCodes and the Centre for Retail Research predict the Boxing Day sales will attract more than a third of the UK’s population, expecting them to spend a record £4.3bn – a 12% rise on 2016.
