Sudden closure left undelivered parcels in post office – claim

-

A CARDIFF post office which unexpectedly closed more than two weeks ago still has undelivered parcels inside, it is claimed.

Llanishen Post Office shut its doors over the festive period, but no official reason has been given for the closure.

Pictures of the shop, on Station Road, show a number of parcels and letters stacked inside the building.

The Post Office has apologised to customers for the temporary closure.

Councillor Phil Bale said he was contacted by residents after the post office shut shortly before Christmas Day.

The former Cardiff council leader said: “There are other postal services in the area, but for the community a post office is a hub of activity.

“People are worried about what is happening.”

The building, which shut its doors without notice, has its regular opening hours displayed on the door.

A Post Office spokeswoman said: “We would like to apologise to customers for the temporary closure of Llanishen Post Office.

“Unfortunately, from time to time, Post Office branches do temporarily close for reasons beyond our control.

“This is because the majority of our branches are run by independent retailers and we are not the owners of the premises, and regrettably, this means we are unable to reopen the branch ourselves.

“We would like to reassure customers that we are doing all we can to get access into the branch and also to restore services for the community as soon as possible.

“The nearest alternative branches are Heol Llanishen Fach, Thornhill and Lakeside.”

The closure follows Llanishen Clinic on Newborough Avenue shutting its doors on December 1.

Speaking at the time, Coun Bale voiced concern for elderly residents who must now travel to Cathedral View Medical Centre in Gabalfa or register at another practice.

He said: “It’s about making sure we don’t lose services for the local community, and about how we can work together.”
