Appeal after memorial vandalised

-

A WORLD War I memorial has been vandalised in Newbridge.

Police are appealing for information after the memorial at Celynen Colliers Institute and Memorial Hall in Newbridge was damaged.

Someone appears to have broken the glass which protected the old parchment that hangs within the listed building now called Newbridge Memo. The parchment lists those from the area who died in the Great War.

A spokesman said: “In the building we have a framed roll of honor which is behind glass and during one of our events in December somebody punched through the glass.”

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said: “We’re appealing for information following reports of criminal damage at the war memorial at Celynen Colliers Institute and Memorial Hall, High Street, Newbridge. The damage is believed to have taken place between 10.15 and 10.25pm on Friday, December 1, 2017.”

Anyone who has any information should call 101 quoting log number 541 1/12/17 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
