PC found stab victim ‘writhing’ in agony

-

A FATHER was left “writhing” in pain after being stabbed in the leg during a late-night street attack in Cardiff, a court heard.

Sean Kelly was 37 when he died at the University Hospital of Wales after the incident in Theodora Street in Splott in the early hours of July 13 last year.

In a witness statement read out at Cardiff Crown Court, PC Christopher Leach said the injured man was “moaning in pain”.

Aaron Bingham and Nicholas Saleh deny murdering Mr Kelly and are on trial.

PC Leach said he arrived at the scene at around 3.30am.

He said: “At this point I had received an indication that a male at the location had been stabbed.”

The witness said he could see a colleague administering first aid to the man on the ground, who was lying on his side.

He described the injured man “writhing” from left to right and “moaning in pain” and said he held him in the recovery position.

PC Leach said: “As the seconds went by, he seemed to move with less energy. I could see the floor nearby was covered in patches of congealed blood.”

The witness stated he could see a colleague dressing a wound, which he believed to be a stab wound to the left thigh.

He said he tried to keep the man’s leg still as his colleague applied the dressing.

The officer said: “At this point he was still moaning but it became more laboured.”

He said the man’s skin looked “ash”coloured in his torch beam and he “appeared to have lost a lot of blood”.

PC Leach said the ambulance arrived and paramedics took over, but the man was “barely moving”.

He said the injured man was lifted on to a stretcher and wheeled into the back of the ambulance.

The witness said he then followed the ambulance to the University Hospital of Wales.

Bingham, 18, from Tweedsmuir Road, and Saleh, 46, from Adamsdown Lane, deny murder.

The trial continues.
