BOUQUET OF THE WEEK Fundraiser praised for Tenovus work

-

A WOMAN who has spent the past two years raising money for Tenovus Cancer Care is the recipient of this week’s Echo Bouquet of the Week.

Lynda Walsh, from Tremorfa, has been a member of the Sing With Us Cardiff South Choir since it started. It has just celebrated its second birthday.

A spokeswoman for Tenovus Cancer Care said: “Lynda has also set up a Splott Friends of Tenovus group fundraising for the charity and raised £827 from the local STAR community.

“She is a busy lady, always helping others, and she always brings fun and support to us all in Splott and Tremorfa.”

Lynda, 56, said she got involved with the charity after cancer affected some people in her life.

After she volunteered to join the choir, she became involved in the charity and was asked if she’d help to start a support group in the local area.

Lynda said: “We’ve got a good little group going there now and we do different fundraising activities to raise money for cancer care. It’s been going for about a year now.”

Lynda explained that lots of people have been affected by cancer in different ways and she said groups like this are important to bring people together.

She spoke of the importance of the choir, which works to bring comfort and joy to people’s lives.

The volunteer explained that groups like this offer a system of support to people who have been touched by cancer, and their friends.

“At choir, you’re there for about an hour and a half and people can just forget about their problems for that time,” Lynda said.

“It’s a good way to get support, and 99% of the songs we sing are upbeat. That’s what it’s all about – being positive.”

When Lynda was told she had been nominated for the bouquet, she was quite surprised.

She said: “I said they shouldn’t have nominated me, but I was told I do a lot for the charity.

“I am pleased but I know that there are other people who do the same as me. It keeps me busy and I enjoy it.”
