Rush-hour delays after road incidents

MOTORISTS were faced with rush-hour delays yesterday after a crash involving a car and a person on one of the busiest routes out of Cardiff.

The A4232 Ely link road outbound was blocked after the incident between Leckwith Interchang­e and Culverhous­e Cross.

South Wales Police were called to the incident just before 2pm.

The Welsh Ambulance Service said one casualty was taken to hospital in Cardiff after the incident.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called at approximat­ely 2.10pm to reports of a woman in the road on the A4232 northbound in Cardiff.

“We sent two crews in emergency ambulances and a paramedic in a rapid response vehicle and a woman was taken to the University Hospital of Wales.”

The A4232 outbound reopened at around 4.50pm, with slow traffic and congestion remaining in the aftermath of the incident.

It came hours after a car fire caused delays around Cardiff and the M4 yesterday morning.

The blaze happened on the inbound carriagewa­y of the A4232 Ely link round 5.20pm, South Wales traffic was “extremely just before 9am.

Delays were going back to junction 32, Coryton, on the M4 and travel time in the area was around 40 minutes.

All lanes re-opened at 10.45am.
