We’re well red for our Velindre fundraising day!

-

HUNDREDS of people across South Wales have taken part in a charity day to raise money for Velindre.

Around 300 businesses, schools and workplaces signed up for Wear Red for Wales and Velindre.

The money has yet to be counted, but it has raised thousands for cancer patients and their families.

The campaign was given the backing of rugby players including Sam Warburton, Dan Biggar and Martyn Williams.

Yesterday Shane Williams visited Twyn School in Caerphilly to meet pupils taking part there.

Businesses taking part included Eversheds Sutherland, SJJ System Services and T4 Recruitment.

Head of fundraising for Velindre Andrew Morris said: “We are absolutely delighted with the amazing response to Wear Red for wales and Velindre.

“Schools and business across Wales have embraced Wear Red and have helped to paint Wales red.

“We are incredibly grateful to everyone who is taking part, all the cake sales, gym classes, collections all helping to raise funds to support cancer patients and their families at Wales’ premier cancer centre Velindre”.

Wales Online backed this year’s Wear Red campaign.

Editor-in-chief Paul Rowland said: “It’s been great to see so many people from across Wales taking part in the day. We’ve seen brilliant pictures of schools and businesses wearing red, and plenty of brilliant cakes. We know thousands of pounds has been raised for a great Welsh charity. We also hope it’ll spur the Wales rugby team on to a great Six Nations campaign”.
