Lecturer who died named

A CARDIFF UNIVERSITY lecturer who died on Monday has been named.

Lecturer Dr Malcolm Anderson died in hospital after emergency services were called to a university building, police have confirmed.

A spokeswoma­n for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police can confirm the death of Cardiff University lecturer Malcolm Anderson.

“Emergency services were called to the Aberconway Building in Colum Drive, Cathays, Cardiff, on Monday morning.

“Mr Anderson, 48, was taken to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, where he sadly died.

“His family have been informed. There are no suspicious circumstan­ces and a file is being prepared for HM Coroner.”

Cardiff University’s website says he was a senior personal tutor and lectured in accounting at Cardiff Business School.

Paying tribute, former students described Mr Anderson as a “passionate” lecturer and supporter of Swansea City football club.

Posting on Twitter, Cardiff University student Elliott Pughsley said: “Really saddened by the news of Malcolm Anderson’s passing.

“He was the only person that’s ever made me want to attend a 9am lecture.

“Privileged to have been taught by him and incredibly thankful for ensuring I actually understood what he was teaching.”

Cardiff University PhD student Rachel Williams added: “A decade ago I attended an open day at @cardiffuni.

“I couldn’t decide what subject to do but after an inspiring presentati­on by Malcolm Anderson I chose business. Such a brilliant man who touched so many lives.”

Business graduate Dan Malyon said: “Desperatel­y saddened to hear of the passing of Malcolm Anderson. Have never met a lecturer so passionate about their students and subject, absolute honour to have been taught by @cardiffbus­iness.”

Cardiff University graduate Abdul Rahman Deeb said: “Saddened by the news that Mr Malcolm Anderson, one of the best (if not the best) lecturers of my MBA at @cardiffuni @cardiffbus­iness died yesterday.

“Condolence­s to his family and friends. You will be missed, Mr. Anderson!”

A university spokeswoma­n said this week: “We are working with South Wales Police following the death of a Cardiff University member of staff. We are not aware of any suspicious circumstan­ces.

“Anyone affected by this incident will be offered support from a range of profession­al university staff.”
