Bethan gets married – in her wellies

BRIDE-TO-BE Bethan Morris was left heartbroken after the venue booked for her wedding reception cancelled due to snow.

But their local pub and pals rallied so she and Jordan Rigby could tie the knot – even if she had to walk down the aisle in her wellies.

The couple were each ferried to Caerphilly Register Office in 4x4s on Friday because the wedding cars could not get onto the road.

“I can’t believe it,” Bethan, now Mrs Rigby, said. “I was in tears because I didn’t think we were going to be getting married. “It’s been absolutely amazing.” On Friday “all I did was cry”, she said.

“I had accepted I would not be getting married,” added the 20-year-old. “I was like, ‘just forget about it.’

“Now we’re married and had a DJ and reception and everything. I can’t believe it.”

Guests trooped in despite the weather.

“All the main important people were there like friends and family,” Bethan said. “Everyone got there who could.

“I got married in my wellies. They were nice and warm.”

At least the wellies were leopard skin.

“I didn’t expect to get married in my wellies but you’ve got to make the best out of a bad situation,” Bethan said.

“I was like, ‘What have I got in my cupboard to put on my feet?’ I chucked on my wellies and it was happy days.

The reception was due to be held at Caerphilly Rugby Club but there were problems clearing snow from the car park.

Bethan thanked everyone who helped.

“I can’t believe how well they pulled it off, it’s been brilliant,” she said.

New hubbie Jordan Rigby, also 20, said after the snow warnings pals called to say they would not be able to make it.

Then there were problems with catering, cars and flowers – all solved in the end.

But the reception was the big problem.

Jordan said the venue managed to clear the car park of snow but could not guarantee it would stay that way.

Then the Wingfield Hotel, in Llanbradach, stepped in.

“We would not have had a wedding had it not been for the community,” the dad of one said.

“It all came together and it was the best day of my life.

“Everything cancelled and it was very stressful. But now it’s happened, I would not have it any other way. The most important thing is we’re married and we’re happy.”

Wingfield Hotel manager, Kay Johnson, said: “They needed to get married didn’t they? They wanted to get married.

“It’s the most important day of her life. She was breaking her heart one minute, and the next she was crying because she was overwhelmed it was going to happen. It’s fabulous!”

Kay knew the couple because they drank in the pub.

“We allowed the people originally doing the catering to bring their food so they would not have to pay for food twice,” Kay said.

Mike Parfitt was roped into driving the couple as he enjoyed a Friday night pint.

“I only just met them when I picked them up,” he said.
