Daughter makes appeal to trace her missing dad

THE daughter of a pensioner who was last seen almost two weeks ago has issued a plea for him to get in touch.

Maldwyn Miles, 67, from Barry, has not been seen since February 22, when he was sighted near the Brecon Mountain Railway in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, at around 2.30pm.

South Wales Police say Mr Miles caught a bus to Merthyr on February 21, but his bus pass has not been used since then. Police say he was carrying some money, and may have used it for further travel.

He was last seen wearing a yellow high-vis jacket, beige trousers, navy slipon shoes and is described as being 5ft 7ins tall and of a slim build. His daughter Rebecca has now issued a plea for him to contact someone to let them know he is safe.

In a statement issued via police, she said: “You are not in trouble, there is no need to be scared to come home.

“If you do not want to come home please just let someone know you are safe. Dad, please let us know you’re ok.”

Supt Ceri Hughes said: “We are extremely concerned for Maldwyn. He is an elderly gentleman and we do not know if he managed to find shelter during the terrible snow and freezing temperatures we have had.

“Although South Wales Police and Mountain Rescue searches have been undertaken and will resuming following the bad weather, we are asking people particularly in the Pant area to help us by checking their sheds and garages.

“Also if you visited the Brecon Mountain Railway Thursday or Friday during half term and think you may have seen him please do call us – you will not be wasting our time. Maldwyn’s disappearance is causing great distress to his family and we really do your help to try and find him.”
