Shane Williams charges dropped

-

CRIMINAL charges against former Wales rugby international Shane Williams have been dropped.

The former British Lions and Ospreys winger was due to appear in court after being charged with affray following an alleged incident in Cardiff city centre.

A charge of affray has also been dropped against Shane Williams’ brother, Dean Williams.

Four other men were also charged with affray following the alleged incident on Great Western Lane on December 2, 2017.

Haydn Morgan, 42, of Herbert Street, Bridgend; Dean Flowers, 32, of Clos-y-Carlwm, Thornhill, Cardiff; Aled James, 26, of Richard Street, Ferndale; and Dave Wing, 53, of Shearman Place, Grangetown, Cardiff, all pleaded not guilty at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court yesterday afternoon.

David Roberts, prosecuting, said the four defendants are alleged to have “used and threatened unlawful violence towards another”.

They will now appear at Cardiff Crown Court on April 6.

A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said: “We keep all cases under continual review. After a further review, we concluded there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction in respect of two of those charged and we therefore discontinued their cases.

“The charges against the remaining four defendants are proceeding.”
