Driver in 80mph police chase was already banned AMAZING

A YOUNG father led police on a terrifying 80mph car chase before smashing into the pursuing vehicle in a crash which injured two officers and caused nearly £5,000 of damage.

McCauley Morgan was travelling at speeds of up to 80mph on residential streets in Rhymney on February 20 this year, Cardiff Crown Court heard.

After a police chase the 21-year-old lost control of his black Vauxhall Corsa on a bend and ended up facing the pursuing BMW police car.

He then drove into the police car – causing £4,895 damage to the BMW and injuring the two officers inside, who were taken to hospital for whiplash, as well as damaging the Corsa he was driving.

Morgan pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to provide a specimen of blood.

He also tested positive for a wipe test for cannabis, the court heard.

Morgan said he had bought the car the previous day and panicked when he saw the blue lights.

Morgan has previous convictions for driving offences, the court heard, but wanted to turn his life around after he found out his girlfriend was expecting a baby. He also has a three-year-old son.

Morgan was sentenced to 14 months in prison for dangerous driving with an additional month, to be served consecutively, for driving while disqualified.

No separate penalty was made for him not having insurance or failing to provide a specimen.

Morgan, of Heol Iago, Fochriw, Caerphilly, was also disqualified from driving for three years and will have to take an extended re-test when he is eligible to drive again.

He was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge.

Presiding judge Recorder John Philpotts told him during sentencing on Thursday: “You are now 21 years old and not for the first time you find yourself before a court for offences to do with your driving.

“I accept that you are sorry. It’s about time that you stopped behaving in the way you have done. You look ashamed of yourself and you ought to.”
