ONE win in eight games has dented Newport County’s League Two play-off aspirations – but boss Mike Flynn is refusing to throw in the towel ahead of today’s clash at Yeovil (3pm).

The Exiles have drawn their last three matches, while are also now seven without a win in the league.

County looked to be on their way to a welcome three points against Forest Green Rovers in a topsy-turvy game on Tuesday night, where they fell behind before leading twice, but a late setback meant they had to settle for a point from a thrilling 3-3 draw.

It leaves Flynn’s men 13th in the table and eight points back on the top seven with 11 matches to play – seven of which are at Rodney Parade.

“We’ve just got to keep going,” he said.

“We’ll take it game by game and give it a go. It was two points dropped against Forest Gren Rovers and we can’t afford to do that many more times.

“We conceded three poor goals and we missed too many chances – we should have been out of sight.

“We created enough chances to win two football matches and, when you score three at home, you expect to win.”

On this afternoon’s trip to Huish Park to face the 17th-placed Glovers, Flynn had a warning for any players not up for the fight between now and the end of the season, saying: “Yeovil are a tough team fighting to stay in the league.

“Anybody who is expecting to just let the season whimper out, they are not for me and they’ll find themselves on the scrap heap in the summer because I’m not about that.

“So if they want to take it easy and have a nice end to the season, they won’t be here.”

Newport won the reverse fixture with Yeovil back in October 2-0 thanks to goals from Padraig Amond and skipper Joss Labadie.
