TV show event was a blinder

-

A CARDIFF venue was transformed into a scene from the 1920s as it hosted its first Peaky Blinders event.

Depot was awash with flat caps and pocket watches, as would-be Tommy Shelbys and Ada Thornes brought their costume A-game.

Full of 1920s flair, the Dumballs Road centre was filled with guests in fancy dress – and there was an impressive element of immersive theatre on the night too.

With tweed waistcoats and flatcaps, combined with the venue’s vintage decor, at a glance you could have easily mistaken the event for a Mumford and Sons music video.

This was the first of five events being held at the Depot – called By Order Of – in honour of the popular TV show.

Actors had been brought in to provide some Peaky Blinders-inspired immersive story lines which played out throughout the night and, without giving too much away, the crowds were visibly impressed with the efforts that organisers had gone to.

For anyone going to any of the next four events, there’ll be a number of brilliant theatrical surprises in store for you – gasps, laughs and cheers were heard throughout this event, finished with a massive applause from the crowd at the end of the night.

There was even debate among the crowds over one of the actresses on the night – a lookalike of Peaky Blinders’ Polly Gray (played by Helen McCrory on the show) which definitely forced a few double takes from guests.

Even down to the mannerisms, you could hear people asking each other “is it her?” whenever she walked by.

She must have been the most photographed person on the night, with a man dressed in a particularly good Alfie Solomons costume not far behind her.

A live band played upbeat jazz music, packing out the dancefloor, and there was a range of food and drinks on offer – taking inspiration from both the fictional world of Peaky Blinders and the era.

The four remaining sold-out Peaky Blinders nights at Depot will take place over the Easter weekend on Saturday and Sunday, and on April 7 and 14.
