Relief as Cross Keys put a stop to losing run

MARK Prangell admitted he was more interested in points than a performance as Cross Keys edged to a narrow victory over Bargoed at Pandy Park.

Three swings of the foot were all that separated the two sides as Josh Prosser kicked three penalties, two of them coming in the second half.

Having lost their last two league games and been dumped out of the National Cup 14-13 by Llandovery in midweek, team manager Prangell was eager for Keys to stop the rot and that’s exactly what they did.

Bargoed had also lost in the cup in midweek, thrashed 26-3 by visitors Ebbw Vale.

“Today was all about the result,” said Prangell.

“We’ve lost three and it wasn’t about performance today, about getting the win.

“I don’t think the conditions suited us really, I think they suited Bargoed more and that’s what kept them in the hunt.

“It’s easy to say now after a 9-0 win but for 80 minutes we were totally in control, no panic at all, and we had a couple of youngsters on and we saw how they performed.

“It was hard to get territory with it was kicking conditions as they were and to run on the field was hard work.

“In other games we have lost control, our discipline has gone.

“If you can improve on something in the game and there are more positives than negatives, then the coaches will be happy with that.

“We now move on to RGC 1404 and Llanelli, with two games in four days.” Pens: J Prosser (3).
