A Major test for Llantwit as they square up to STM

-

THERE is a crucial game at the top of Division Two of the Nathaniel Cars Welsh League tomorrow as promotion candidates Llantwit Major host league leaders STM Sports at their Windmill Ground.

The home team, under the guidance of their 28-year-old manager Karl Lewis, have climbed to third in the table after a terrific run of form over the last month, including a 1-0 away win a title challenges Pontypridd Town.

Llantwit and Ponty have both played eighteen games and are on forty points, seven behind Dale Gardener’s leaders.

STM are the Second Division’s top scorers with 77 goals scored and they boast a wonderful goal difference of plus fifty.

Lamin Konteh and Curtis Scotto have both topped twenty goals for the away team while the home team have Anthony Rawlings and Sam Sniath, who represented Wales Under-18 schools against England yesterday.

With an abundance of good strikers at this level, an entertaining goal-fest shouldn’t be ruled out in the Vale.

Pontypridd, who are second at the moment, travel to West End in Swansea tomorrow and look capable of coming back from West with three points to keep the title race still wide open.

At the other end of the table, Dinas Powys showed they are up for the fight of trying to stave off relegation when they produced their best performance of the season last week, defeating Aberdare Town 3-0.

Manager Ben Luck will be disappointed his team are without a fixture tomorrow and will have to wait until next Wednesday evening when Dinas visit Garden Village.

In the First Division tomorrow, Taffs Well welcome Briton Ferry to Rhiw Dda and will look to produce the same form as last weekend.

Nana Baah returned to his former club Caerau Ely and came away with a 3-0 away win and three points.

This season has definitely been a transitional period for the Wellmen with managerial coming and goings.

Baah, Lee Bridgeman and Adrian Needs have seven games left to push themselves into the top half of the table and start to recreate a team which can challenge for honours once again.

Caerau Ely are on their travels tomorrow to Port Talbot Town and Craig Sampson’s team simply have to produce some big results in their last nine fixtures if they are to continue in Division One next season.

Caerau are eight points adrift of Cwmamman United safety battle and have played a game more, so every point is now vital to the Ely team.

Port Talbot have had two wins and two clean sheets in the last fortnight and will expect to make it three wins in a row at the Gen Quip Stadium.

Ely Rangers have a massive six pointer at the foot of the third division as they play at Treowen Stars the only team below them in the Welsh League.

The Rangers suffered a midweek defeat at home to Trefelin on Wednesday and will want a win at the basement club to aid their survival bid.

Bridgend Street won their derby encounter at Ely last Friday 2-0 and will travel to Caerau in a confident mood.

Pontyclun visit Penrhiwceiber Rangers in a mid-table battle to wrap up matters in Division Three tomorrow.
