TRIBUTES Ex-serviceman had a big heart

-

A FORMER serviceman has been remembered for his talent for art and love of the outdoors.

The life of Noel David Williams has been celebrated following his death on March 17 at the age of 60.

Born one of four boys in Piercefield Place, Roath, Noel attended Tredegarville Primary School and St James’ Church.

From there he joined the army as a teenager, travelling to across the world as part of the Royal Regiment of Wales.

During his service Noel took on numerous roles including guarding prisoner Rudolf Hess, the prominent Nazi Germany politician.

It was during his time in the Belize jungle that the popular serviceman also discovered his passion for the great outdoors, developing a love of scuba diving, as well as learning to ski in Canada.

On his return to Cardiff seven years later Noel met his wife Paula.

After the perfect wedding in Arklow, Ireland, the pair enjoyed 29 years of marriage together.

He will be sorely missed by all of his family including his son Leon, parents Gloria and Bill and brothers Roger and Trevor.

During his life Noel generously volunteered his time to help disabled children ride horses alongside his job as a welder.

A keen swimmer, his wealth of hobbies also included motorbikes, fishing and handling and owning birds of prey.

In his spare time Noel could often be found on his motorboat in Swansea with family, or outside with the family’s dogs.

Of all of his passions, however, his biggest love was spending time with the whole family.

Known for his artistic ability, Noel will be fondly remembered for his creations including paintings of Native Americans and dragons treasured by family members.

Paying tribute, Noel’s family described the Welshman as a talented musician with a big heart and sense of humour.

His mother Gloria said: “Noel had a great sense of humour and was well liked.

“We would all have lunch together on Sundays especially in the warmer weather where he would play the guitar.

“We have together.”

Noel’s funeral will be held on Friday at Wenallt Chapel, Thornhill at 11.45am. valued memories
