Generous diner paid for family’s meal after boy hit him with balloon

A MUM is trying to track down the generous diner who paid her family’s restaurant bill – even though her twoyear-old son had been hitting him on the head with a balloon.

Lisa, who lives in Llanedeyrn, Cardiff, visited Frankie and Benny’s on Newport Road on Monday with her partner Phillip and her two young children – Luca, two, and six-year-old Mia.

Facing a long wait, a waitress gave Luca a balloon and colouring books to play with.

But while waiting for their food to arrive, Luca hit the man sitting next to them on the head with the balloon.

The family apologised and asked to be moved to another table so the man could eat his dinner in peace.

But when they went to pay, Lisa was shocked to find he had paid their bill – and for them to have extra ice cream.

“I couldn’t believe it,” she said. “Me and my boyfriend both had tears in our eyes, it was such a kind thing to do.

“Luca was being a bit of a b ***** . I think he was getting restless because it was quite busy when we went.

“The waitress gave him a balloon to keep him busy but he started waving it around and was hitting a gentleman on the head, so I asked if we could move tables because I wanted the man to be able to eat in peace.

“He responded saying ‘no, it’s fine’ and was talking to us, but we moved anyway out of respect.”

The family had each eaten two courses, with Luca enjoying spaghetti and meatballs, and the bill had come to about £70.

Lisa said that when they had finished their food she asked for the bill, and the waitress came over with a huge smile on her face.

“She came over and said she was excited to tell us because it had never happened in there before.

“She said the gentleman had paid the entire bill and for extra ice cream.

“I know there’s a slim chance of finding him, but I would love to repay him and buy him a meal.”

Lisa added: “Going out with the children can be stressful sometimes. It’s really nice that rather than getting annoyed about it he did that.

“I still can’t believe it, I’ve told all of my friends and family.

“It just goes to show there are some lovely people out there.”
