‘Loving dad’ died after being hit by car on A48

THE family of a pedestrian who died after being hit by a car on a major road between Cardiff and Newport have paid tribute to him.

Gwent Police said that John Gee, 60, from Barry, died at the scene.

His family said: “John was a loving partner, brother and father. He was part of a large family and will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

“We ask for some privacy so that we may grieve the loss of our loved one.”

Emergency services were called to the scene just after 2pm on Sunday.

A spokeswoma­n for Gwent Police said: “At approximat­ely 2pm on Sunday we received reports of a serious road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on the A48 towards Newport.

“During the incident, a vehicle had collided with a pedestrian, who sadly passed away at the scene from their injuries.

“Specialist officers are supporting the family at this time.”

The A48 was shut between Pound Hill and Blacksmith­s Hill, which caused some delays for traffic. The road was reopened shortly after 5pm.

The police are investigat­ing the circumstan­ces surroundin­g the incident.
