Nothing beats the thrill of a table-top football game! Echoes

-

WITH the excitement of Cardiff City being promoted still running high, We thought we would see if playing the sport at home is any substitute.

While looking through the archives, I found some golden examples of the thrills and spills of the table top football game that rivals the real thing.

Back in May 1974, we looked at the senior table top football chamionships.

As you can see from our photographs, the look of concentration on the faces of Robert Thomas and Alan Hounsell as they fight it out for the senior title at the Welsh Table Football Championship in Subbuteo.

Or as Stephen Warrington prepares to attack the goal of 14-year-old Tim Hurcom of Dinas Powys during the Welsh Table Soccer Chanmpionships on the right. In 2004, Thomas Taylor noticed that there was something missing in table football. We wrote at the time: “Table football has taken a step closer to reality thanks to a Welsh businessman who has introduced streakers that can halt play. “Inspired after watching a streaker run onto the pitch twice at a Walsall match, Mr Taylor decided to make his own nude model, replete with police officer ready to make a quick arrest. “The naked figure has been given the seal of approval from the world’s most prolific streaker, Mark Roberts – although some fanatics of the tabletop game have not been so supportive.”
