A VOLUNTEER who has devoted her time to brightening up community spaces has been rewarded with an Echo Bouquet of the Week.

Fiona McAllister, 55, has given her time to Keep Grangetown Tidy since it was started about two years ago.

The Beaufort Research managing director has been part of the team that has planted up the streets of Grangetown with a mixture of herbs and bulbs.

Fiona has also been involved with organising street parties on Stockland Street, bringing together neighbours and sharing dishes each of them bring along.

“I’m thrilled,” Fiona said, “How very lovely. I love flowers.

“Keep Grangetown Tidy is a group of volunteers and we meet every month and we basically tackle one area of Grangetown each month.

“The idea is we make improvements to the environment in Grangetown really.”

As well as her work with community groups, Fiona is also an occasional contributor to local publication Grangetown News.

“I sometimes write the odd article or feature for Grangetown News,” she said.

“I did one on baseball in the last edition and its history in Cardiff.”

Labour Grangetown Councillor Ashley Lister nominated Fiona for her tireless work to benefit the area.

“Fiona has been involved with Keep Grangetown Tidy for probably the entire time since we have been organising it,” he said.

“She has been really integral to the improvement work at Grangemoor Park, and supported street parties on Stockland Street.

“She puts in a lot of effort as well as being a successful businesswoman herself.”
