Sisters net Disney deal for brushes

A MAKE-UP brush company from South Wales that found internet fame is about to become even more of a fairytale success story – after signing a deal with Disney.

Spectrum was set up four years ago by sisters Sophie and Hannah Pycroft in their garage in Barry.

After finding success through Instagram, the business is now worth £12m.

And now the first collaborat­ion between the Vale of Glamorgan-based business and the Hollywood studio will be The Little Mermaid.

The collection will see Spectrum take on the iconic Disney characters Ursula and Ariel, and is also inspired by the latest catwalk trends of heavy glitter, metallics and embellishm­ent. It will go on sale on Thursday.

The businesswo­men have previously worked with Hollywood in tie up with Paramount to release a collection inspired by the 2004 film Mean Girls, which starred Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams.

“It is an incredible honour to be working with a global brand so rich in heritage,” said Hannah, 28.

“We love Disney and the nostalgia it brings which has inspired our collection­s. It really is a dream come true for Sophie, myself and the team.”

Spectrum Collection­s is a vegan and cruelty-free beauty brand and sells its multi-coloured brushes and brush sets all over the world.

“We grew up with Disney and for us it represents a magical, colourful and inspiratio­nal world,” said Hannah.

“Combined with our own experience of starting in a garage and rising to great success along with how Disney inspires everyone to ‘dream big,’ hopefully the collection is inspiratio­nal to our customers and fans of both brands.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer a piece of nostalgia, combined with on-trend design and ethical material choices which we hope will be a hit with consumers spanning generation­s.”

The idea for the business came up when they were on holiday.

“We were brainstorm­ing with mum and dad around the pool,” recalled Sophie, 30, who was working as a freelance photograph­er at the time. Hannah was a videograph­er. “We thought about starting a clothing brand but the start-up costs were too high.

“We saw there was a gap in the market for trend-led beauty tools and we wanted something that would combine our love for fashion and beauty.”
