YOUR PETS Rescue dog Morgy likes to be carried in his bag on walks

-

Pet’s name: Age: Seven. Breed: Toy poodle. Owner’s name: Cara Morgan, 43, from Church Village, near Pontypridd. Owner’s story: “Morgy is a toy poodle who the vet estimates is about seven years old.

“He was a rescue from Many Tears Animal Rescue.

“I wasn’t convinced he would last the week when I got him, but he has been with me for nearly four years now and thriving.

“It was October 2014 when I got him. He was one of the ‘Camarthen 65.’ A licenced breeder had told the council that she’d stopped breeding, but she died leaving all the dogs to their own devices.

“The Carmarthen 65 were the first Morgy. ones rescued – Morgy was one of them. They were in really bad condition – their fur was all matted – and there were a lot of poodles there.

“But there were a lot of volunteers to help groom them. When they put the plea on Facebook, I had to help.

“I already had another dog, Izzy, but I felt guilty because she was also from a breeder in Carmarthen. I felt like I needed to rescue them.

“His rescue name was Moby but I didn’t want to make a massive change to his name, so I changed it to Morgy.

“We got him home and I didn’t think he would last a week. He was super skinny and very nervous, but over the years he’s the most confident little thing. As soon as he came home, he was so resilient. It was just as though he knew he had been rescued.

“As soon as he was in the lap of luxury, he loved it. He slept a lot and I thought it was because he never had the opportunity, but he’s still the same. It’s his favourite pastime.

“We now go on poodle walks but any time anyone sees him, they point out how small he is. He was 1.9kg when I got him, but he’s a whole 3kg now.

“He’s a typical poodle. He will tell you when he wants something. He’s been the boss of my other dog. He’s also very jealous.

“His favourite thing is when he’s on group walks and he likes to be carried in his bag.

“I would recommend rescue dogs to absolutely anyone. They are the most loving, loyal companions that anyone could ask for. The amount of love you get back is ten-fold.”
