BEYONCE AND JAY-Z DAZZLE IN CARDIFF
FORGET Harry and Meghan – pop royalty came to Cardiff last night as Beyoncé and Jay-Z kicked off their much-anticipated world tour.
Eager ticket-holders were spotted queueing outside the Principality Stadium from the early hours of the morning to get a good spot – with some super-fans even camping out overnight to grab prime spots.
Returning to Wales two years after playing Cardiff as part of her Formation tour, this time the Crazy In Love singer teamed up with her charttopping husband Jay-Z for a joint world tour.
With the words On The Run II lighting up the stage the power couple kicked off the night with hits including 2002 single Bonnie and Clyde before moving on to classics Drunk in Love and Diva.
In the opening minutes photos of the proud parents with twins Rumi and Sir Carter also appeared on stage along with the words “Love never changes”.
Intimate pictures of the couple together were later shown on stage accompanied with the words “The gangster” and “The queen” before images of Donald Glover, Destiny’s Child and Chance The Rapper.
Despite clear skies the stadium roof remained shut for the entire performance, kick-started by Cardiff DJ Tom Clugstone as the support act.
For the opening songs Beyoncé took to the stage in a white sparkling dress and later a diamond fishnet balaclava while Jay-Z favoured a plain white suit before a change of outfits after three songs.
Ahead of the event tickets remained on sale up until the evening itself with some seats appearing empty up until minutes before the couple took to the stage.
But some took a more organised approach and arrived well in advance of the action.
Dan Mould, 33, travelled from Leicestershire to see his idol perform.
He camped out on Tuesday night from around 10pm to guarantee himself a front row spot.
Dan said: “I am so excited for the concert. I have seen Beyoncé and Jay-Z perform together before.
“I saw Beyoncé’s Formation tour in Manchester and I saw Destiny’s Child on their world tour. They were amazing.
“I’m 100% here for Beyoncé. But I am looking forward to seeing them together.”
Meanwhile, founder of Facebook group BeyHive Espana, Alejandro Asensi, flew to London from Spain before travelling to Cardiff for the concert.
Alejandro, 22, said: “I only really care about Beyoncé – she is my life. I’m also going to see the show again in Barcelona in July. I took time off work to see her.”
