-

A PROVISIONAL trial date has been set for a woman accused of murdering a four-year-old girl.

The case of Carly Ann Harris was listed before Judge Eleri Rees at Cardiff Crown Court yesterday for a preliminary hearing.

Harris, 37, from Trealaw, Rhondda, was due to appear via video link from HM Prison Eastwood Park but the court heard she was not well enough to attend.

She is charged with murdering fouryear-old Amelia Brooke Harris, who was found dead at a property in Trealaw on Friday night.

Emergency services were called to an address in Brithweunydd Road at about 10.20pm.

The defendant appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

She has not yet entered a plea but a provisional trial date was set for December 3.

No application was made for bail and she was remanded in custody until her next court appearance.

On Sunday, Amelia’s family paid tribute to a “fun-loving, caring and bubbly little girl”.

In a statement released by South Wales Police, they said: “On Friday night we tragically lost our baby girl, Amelia Brooke Harris, a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, niece and cousin.

“Amelia was beautiful both inside and out – and was a fun-loving, caring and bubbly little girl.

“She was taken far too early from us and had her whole life ahead of her.

“Words cannot convey how we are feeling at this moment in time. We know our lives will never be the same again.”

The force is supporting the family with specially-trained family liaison officers.
