Three-day Welshfest finally gets go-ahead

-

MUSIC festival Welshfest has finally been given the go-ahead after being refused an events licence earlier this year.

In April, Vale of Glamorgan council turned down a licence application for Welshfest due to concerns over public safety and noise.

The event, which will feature four stages, a dance tent and more than 100 artists, is expected to attract up to 5,000 people.

But the festival, due to take place at the Coedarhydyglyn Estate in St George’ssuper-Ely between July 27 and 29, has now been given a licence by the council after a follow-up hearing.

The event promises three days of live music and is headlined by comedy rap group Goldie Lookin Chain on the Sunday night.

Other acts include The Dirty Youth, Beyond the Break, Sian Evans, Kizzy Crawford, Fireroad, Digital Criminals, Buffalo Summer and The Coyotes.

Early bird tickets cost £45 for adults, with day tickets available for £25. Concessions are available for children.

A spokesman for the event said: “The news of the licence being granted has come after much confusion over the requirements of the local authority to allow me to put the festival on.

“I am very happy to say that these objections and concerns about the festival have now been satisfied.

“We have received absolutely no objections from the public which I think gives promise to the support of the event in general.

“The line up has been announced for some time now and I am grateful for the artists continued support of Welshfest and commitment to perform during a time of uncertainty.

“It’s going to be a fantastic event and the crew and I can’t wait to get on site and get things ready.”
