Celtic Manor’s Lewys Sanges led the charge for the quintet with an eight-over 149 to finish tied for 96th, two shots off the cut.

Welsh Ladies’ Amateur champion Lea-Anne Bramwell (Abergele) and Jordan Ryan (Newport) are on the reserve list.

In the Welsh Team Championships, eight-time winners Newport are through to the main competition after beating Peterstone Lakes 3.51.5.

In the Victory Shield Foursomes, St Pierre beat Pontnewydd to set-up a quarter-final clash with Celtic Manor.

In other news, it was a family affair at Maesteg as Ellis Williams beat his brother Thomas to top the leaderboard in a Club Championship qualifier.

Junior member Ellis led the way with 69 while Thomas, reigning club champion, was close behind on 70.

And the main tournament, which will take place in September, will host another member of the family after dad Neil shot 83 to clinch qualification.
