SHERMAN Theatre’s autumn season includes a new and necessary staging of a Welsh language classic, a new and dynamic platform for emerging Welsh theatre companies and a co-production with Theatr Clwyd.

Sherman Theatre’s artistic director Rachel O’Riordan said: “Sherman Theatre’s wonderful new season builds on the work we have done so far.

“We are honoured and delighted to produce Fel Anifail by Meic Povey.

“This extraordinary Welsh language play is directed by Jac Ifan Moore, one of our directors nurtured though the Sherman artist development programme.

“The Sherman will continue to live its commitment to nurturing the best emerging Welsh and Wales based talent through our new Get It While Its Hot programme.

“This autumn also sees our first Company in Residence Cwmni Pluen present Mags – bilingual physical theatre made by one of Wales’ most exciting young companies.

“We are also proud to share the first co-production between the Sherman and Theatr Clwyd which is an exciting development for Welsh theatre – and we have award-winning guest director Emma Jordan at the helm.”

The season opens with the Sherman Theatre production (October 11 to 20).

Written by Meic Povey, this production, approved by the playwright before his passing last year, is directed by Jac Ifan Moore.

In the very first co-production between Sherman Theatre and Theatr Clwyd, Lord of the Flies by William Golding is performed on the main stage from October 17 to November 3. Director Emma Jordan and designer James Perkins join forces for this bold re-imagining of the classic text adapted for the stage by Nigel Williams.

Get It While It’s Hot is the brand new platform for emerging theatre companies. Combining red hot, contemporary theatre with a play and a drink all for £12.50 – it is the perfect way to unwind with friends after work.

Cardiff’s Clock Tower Theatre kick things off from November 13 to 17 with their new show Shed Man by Kevin Jones.

In recent years the Sherman has established itself as home to Cardiff’s finest Christmas family entertainment.

This year ages three to six will enjoy fairy tale fun with Little Red Riding Hood / Yr Hugan Fach Goch in the Studio (November 9 & 10 and December 3 to 29). Directed by Sherman Theatre’s associate artist Gethin Evans, of Fel Anifail this reworking of the classic fairy tale is performed at separate performances in both English and Welsh.

For ages seven and over the Christmas show is Alice in Wonderland (November 23 to December 29).

Sherman Theatre artistic director Rachel O’Riordan will direct this fun, family show by Mike Kenny.

Alongside Sherman Theatre’s own productions there is also a programme of impressive productions from around the UK and among the highlights are Sherman Theatre’s first company in residence, Cwmni Pluen Company, presenting Mags (September 25 to 28) a bilingual production that follows the life of one incredible woman as she explores how, as community structures break down, the human race is taking care of each other.

Following her sell-out performance in 2017, Ruby Wax returns to the Sherman on October 3 & 4.

With a little help from monk Gelong Thubten and neuroscientist Ash Ranpura, Ruby Wax is inviting you to use more of your mind for compassion in How to Be Human.

Autumn 2018 is a strong season for comedy fans: Jeremy Hardy visits on September 19, Marcus Brigstocke brings his Devil May Care tour to Cardiff on September 22 and Chris Ramsey is Just Happy to get Out of the House on October 5.
