As high water temperatures are expected to continue imitative patterns such as buzzers, corixa, damsel nymphs and Diawl Bach will tempt the trout.

Gwyn Davies has been catching consistently and netted six rainbows on his visit to the top pond. A useful tip from Gwyn is that as a fall of ants is likely it is essential to have a suitable matching pattern in the fly box. Stephen Snape used a team of buzzers to reach the eight-fish catch -and-release limit, while Dave Woods banked six fish on one visit and added a further eight in two sessions.

Gareth West and Stephen Maslam both caught five when they fished and Adrian Moyse switched between a damsel nymph and a tadpole pattern fly as he hooked nine rainbows over two days on the top pond bank and added a few more when he gave the bottom pond a try.

On the top pond, it took Ivor Thomas three days for his nine-fish total and three were caught by Mark Roberts, David Bull and Dave Arlotte who also had a four-fish catch to his credit. Among those with a brace were Wynne Jones, John Belcher and Howell Woods.

After a top-pond brace, Keith Higgins boat-fished the bottom pond and reached the eight-fish limit while Shaun Cotterell caught four as did Bob Bradley when he was afloat. Bank fishing has been more difficult but three trout were caught by Peter Dent, Kevin Pinkney and Terry O‘Connor.

Mike Thomas went to the lake to

catch trout to eat and he certainly wasn’t disappointed as the 10 rainbows he caught gave him 35lb of fish.

Cardiff anglers Fred Hooper, Jim Winterbottom, Keith Higgins and Frank Engel were fishing catch and release and put back three, eleven, nine and eight rainbows running to over 3lb.

Alan Staniforth fished three times and returned 18 rainbows while both Phil Meyrick and Paul Townsend put 10 back on the day they fished.

Regular visitor Paul Elsworthy used nymphs and buzzers to hook 15 rainbows to 3.5lb as did Rhys Davies who returned nine.

Seven trout fell for Richy Greenhough’s buzzers; Roger Thomas caught six; five came to the net for Alex Williams and among those catching four were Phil Harris, Mike Clewe, Peter Amos, Neil Slocombe and 11-year-old William Brooks.

Kasidit Leoviriyakit reached the 10 fish catch and release limit and his seven-year-old son Wilbur caught four when they fished with nymphs and buzzers at the Redbrook fishery.

John King caught 10 rainbows all around 2.5lb on blue flash damsels and egg flies while John Burton included hoppers and sedges among the flies that brought him a limit.

Keith Fenton retained two fish and returned eight, but all six caught by Geoff Parfitt went back in the water.

Bill Bateman, George Parfitt and Gary Tucker all returned five and among those with four fish were George Richards, Joe Frost, David Morris, Chris Miller, Chris Griffiths and Mick Payne.

The water is warming up and early starters are doing best using black buzzers, damsel nymphs, orange blobs and cat’s whisker lures.

Four rainbows over 3lb took a Grey Duster fly off the surface when Martin Roberts fished; Liam Morgan’s three fish 11.25lb bag was taken on a damsel nymph and a Diawl Bach worked for Hywell Thomas with a three-fish 9.25lb bag.
