THEY’RE the black and white photograph­s from a closed suburban school that give a glimpse into Cardiff’s education past.

Images from the 1950s show a slice of life at the high school which would one day produce Wales’ richest man.

And now former pupils of Howardian High School are being offered the chance to get their hands on their own pieces of history, before a new primary school opens on the site.

Part of Howardian High School in Penylan, where billionair­e businessma­n Sir Michael Moritz received his secondary education, was closed in 1990 with a new school – Howardian Primary School – opening on the site on Hammond Way three years ago.

But the primary school was temporaril­y housed until a new building could be built. Now the school is all set to make the big move.

But it needs some help to clear the masses of memorabili­a on site before the building is torn down.

Former Howardians are being invited to return to the school and pick up any pieces they want – as well as having a final chance to revisit their old stomping ground.

Howardian Primary School’s headteache­r, Dr Helen Hoyle, said she was sad about the move because of the memories but was looking forward to a new chapter.
