Rail excursions with great customer service
PATHFINDER Tours, based in Gloucestershire was established in 1973 by general manager, Peter Watts, who turned his hobby into a business.
It organises around 40 rail excursions every year along both famous and less well-known routes to a wide variety of interesting destinations.
Pathfinder prides itself on the level of customer service it provides and has many loyal customers who travel with the company over and over again.
Some of Pathfinder’s trains evoke bygone eras as they are made up of heritage carriages (with slam doors and opening windows) hauled by steam locomotives.
Others are hauled by classic diesel engines arousing the interest of enthusiasts. Pathfinder’s stewards are all volunteers who make everyone welcome on board and love sharing their knowledge of all things rail related.
Travelling aboard one of its special trains is a chance to experience rail travel as it used to be and create some magical memories for yourself.
The Pathfinder programme features The Solent and Sussex Explorer on Saturday, July 21 which will take you on a summer trip to the South East. There is a choice of three places to visit:
Explore the historic port of Portsmouth – with its many museums and dockyard full of fascinating ships; there is also outlet shopping at Gunwharf Quays nearby;
Visit Chichester – a Roman town, with distinctive Georgian architecture and a Cathedral dating back to C11, once a port, but now with only canal trips; or
Discover Littlehampton – a pleasant coastal resort and working port on the mouth of the River Arun, with flint cottages. There is a local museum, boat trips, amusements and shops to see.
The fabulous food on all Pathfinder Tours excursions is provided by Frying Scotsman Catering Services headed by chef Alan Holland (aka Dutch), who has previously cooked on the Royal train.
